Sentani, Jayapura Regency – The East Sentani Nutrition Fulfillment Service Unit (SPPG) in Jayapura Regency, Papua Province, is one of the 11 social institutions trusted by the government to carry out the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) program for school children in the coastal area and the islands around Lake Sentani.
This program aims to increase the fulfillment of balanced nutrition for elementary school children in remote areas that are difficult to reach, as well as support the government’s efforts in reducing malnutrition and stunting rates in Papua.
The Chairman of the TEKER Harapan Papua Foundation, Hesty Imelda Kere, as the person in charge of the East Sentani Nutrition Fulfillment Service Unit, said that the implementation of the Free Nutritious Meal program in coastal areas has its own challenges, especially related to transportation access and food distribution.
We serve schools that are far from the city center and can only be reached by using a speedboat. But we are still committed so that children on the coast and islands in Lake Sentani also feel the benefits of balanced nutrition for their growth and development,” he said in Sentani.
According to Hesty, the implementation of the Free Nutritious Meal program in coastal areas requires good coordination between foundations, schools, and local governments. The support of various parties, he said, is the key so that the distribution process of nutritious food can run smoothly every day without logistical obstacles.
“We continue to coordinate with schools and local governments so that the food used remains fresh, safe, and meets the nutritional standards that have been set,” he added.
Through this Free Nutritious Meal program, the East Sentani Nutrition Fulfillment Service Unit hopes to be able to make a real contribution in improving the quality of health and learning spirit of children in the coastal area of Jayapura, so that they can grow into a healthy, intelligent, and competitive young generation of Papuans.
