Nduga, Papua — Joint security forces have successfully apprehended an individual strongly suspected to be a member of the armed criminal group (KKB) operating in the Nduga region of Papua. The suspect, identified as Nowaiten Telenggen alias German Ubruangge (30), is believed to be part of the KKB network led by Egianus Kogoya and involved in a series of armed violence incidents in and around Kenyam.
The arrest was carried out by the joint task force following a tip-off from the local community regarding the suspect’s presence at a health clinic, reportedly under the influence of alcohol. At approximately 09:04 WIT on Thursday (August 7, 2025), the suspect was apprehended without resistance and taken directly to the Nduga Police Headquarters for further investigation.
Preliminary questioning revealed Nowaiten Telenggen’s involvement in three major incidents that drew national attention:
The shooting of a white armored vehicle on the Trans Batas Batu Road, Yasoma Village, on April 21, 2022.
The shooting at a SAM Air PK-SMG aircraft at Kenyam Airport on June 7, 2022.
The brutal killings of a pastor, an ustaz, and several civilians in Nogolaid Village on July 16, 2022.
The suspect also admitted to supplying food logistics to Egianus Kogoya’s group and to documenting their armed actions.
Authorities seized one black Oppo A3X mobile phone with dual IMEI numbers, which is currently being analyzed for further intelligence gathering.
A digital forensic examination of the suspect’s device revealed audio recordings suggesting planned future operations. These included fundraising efforts and logistics coordination with several local businesspeople in Nduga Regency, along with threats to blockade roads leading to the Batas Batu area if their demands were not met.
The Chief of Operation Peace Cartenz, Brig. Gen. Dr. Faizal Ramadhani, S.Sos., S.I.K., M.H., accompanied by Deputy Chief of Operation, Police Commissioner Adarma Sinaga, S.I.K., M.Hum., commended the rapid response of the field team.
“This arrest marks a significant step in our ongoing efforts to suppress the movement of KKB in the Papua region. We will continue to pursue the broader network associated with Egianus Kogoya to ensure the safety of civilians,” he stated firmly.
In addition, the Public Relations Chief of Operation Peace Cartenz, Police Commissioner Yusuf Sutejo, S.I.K., M.T., urged the public to remain calm and not be influenced by misleading narratives often spread by KKB sympathizers.
“We are committed to providing accurate and transparent information to the public. We also call on the community to support our efforts by reporting any known presence of armed group members,” he emphasized.
The Operation Peace Cartenz Task Force will continue investigating Nowaiten Telenggen’s further involvement, including his communications with small-medium enterprises (SMEs) and local figures suspected of being sympathizers. Coordination with regional security units in Nduga is also underway to pursue remaining active members of Egianus Kogoya’s group.
The public is advised to stay alert and refrain from providing any form of support to armed criminal groups that threaten safety and public order in the Papua region.
