Jakarta, – President Prabowo Subianto has granted amnesty to six individuals convicted of non-violent treason originating from Papua and Ambon. The decision is seen as a symbolic gesture aimed at strengthening national unity.
Minister of Law and Human Rights, Supratman Andi Agtas, stated that the amnesty serves as a message of peace and a call for all elements of the nation to come together, despite ongoing unresolved issues. “Yes, there are still problems, but it’s better if we unite. This is also a message for all of society,” said Supratman, as quoted by Antara, Tuesday(August 5, 2025)
The six convicts who received amnesty are:
Josephien Tanasale, from Ambon, detained at Class III Prison in Ambon
Viktor Makamuke Bin Paulus (deceased), from Papua, detained at Class IIB Prison in Sorong
Alex Bless, from Maybrat, Papua, detained at Class I Prison in Ujung Pandang
Yance Kambuaya alias Yance, from Maybrat, Papua, detained at Class I Prison in Ujung Pandang
Adolof Nauw, from Maybrat, Papua, detained at Class I Prison in Ujung Pandang
Hilkia Isir, from Maybrat, Papua, detained at Class I Prison in Ujung Pandang
The granting of amnesty is considered a humanitarian and reconciliation approach toward groups that have long been viewed as being in opposition to the state, particularly in the Papua region.
The Ministry of Law and Human Rights confirmed that the release process will follow applicable legal procedures while ensuring justice and social harmony are upheld.
