Jakarta – Ofel Marthen Kaviar, a young man from Puncak Jaya in Central Papua, is one of 530 prospective cadets (catar Akpol) who successfully passed the selection to the central committee level for Indonesia’s National Police Academy (Akpol). Along with one other candidate, Ofel represents the Central Papua Regional Police (Polda Papua Tengah) in the selection process held at the Akpol Complex in Semarang, Central Java, on Monday (July 28, 2025).

Ofel is not just any ordinary candidate. He is a recipient of a scholarship from the Ministry of Defense (Kemenhan) to attend the prestigious Taruna Nusantara High School. He earned the scholarship thanks to his academic and non-academic achievements during junior high school in Puncak Jaya.

“I attended elementary and junior high school in Puncak Jaya, Papua. For high school, I went to Taruna Nusantara. I received a scholarship from the Ministry of Defense based on my academic and non-academic performance in junior high,” said Ofel when met at the selection site.

His motivation to join the Police Academy is not solely career-driven—it stems from a deep calling and his love for the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI). Ofel hopes to become a source of inspiration for young people in Central Papua, especially those in remote areas like Puncak Jaya.

“I have a strong desire to serve the NKRI and to motivate younger children in the remote areas of Papua. What inspired me was my late grandfather, who served as a police officer with the rank of AKP in Jayawijaya. My father is a TNI soldier with the rank of Sertu (Sergeant), and my mother is an elementary school teacher in Mulia, Puncak Jaya,” Ofel shared.

He revealed that this year marks his third attempt at the Police Academy selection process. Despite failing twice before, he never gave up.

“This is my third time applying to Akpol. I grew up in Puncak Jaya, where I witnessed many problems being resolved with the help of the police. The police play a vital role in helping the community in my area,” he said.

The 20-year-old explained that he continuously evaluates his academic abilities to achieve optimal results. He follows a disciplined routine of studying and physical training—morning, afternoon, and evening.

“For my preparation—from the first attempt to the third—I arranged a schedule for study and physical training every morning, afternoon, and evening. I realized I needed to keep evaluating my academic performance,” said Ofel, who was also known as a provincial champion in the 1,500-meter, 200-meter, and 100-meter sprint events while in high school in Central Java.

With unwavering determination, Ofel hopes to finally pass the selection this year and become a cadet at the National Police Academy, fulfilling his dream of serving the country and the people of Papua.
