Mimika – Chairman of Commission I DPR RI Meutya Hafid believes that the Government needs to optimize a socio-cultural approach in dealing with the increasingly anarchic actions of the Armed Criminal Group (KKB).
“The government needs to reopen dialogues with the KKB group to find a peaceful solution. “Inclusive and transparent negotiations can help reduce tensions,” said Meutya in a statement received in Jakarta.
He assessed that investment in infrastructure development, education and community welfare could help reduce security instability in Papua.
Regarding this matter, he said that Commission I of the DPR appreciated the development that the Government had carried out in Papua quickly, quickly and significantly over the last 10 years.
“Such development steps need to be continued to support the Papuan people,” he said.
Furthermore, Meutya asked the Government to focus on resolving the conflict and restoring stability in Papua.
“We are concerned about the incessant KKB actions which have recently become more frequent. “We ask the Government to immediately take concrete steps and focus on conflict resolution and security stability in Papua,” he said.
He asked the TNI-Polri officers to be able to overcome the security disturbances that occurred in Papua, because the security of the local community is a top priority.
“We want to ensure the presence of security forces to protect civilians in order to overcome security threats. “Strengthening the presence of the TNI and Polri in the area is very important,” he said.
Meutya also criticized the KKB’s action of burning down the school building. He reminded that Papuan children’s right to receive a decent education must be prioritized.
For this reason, he asked the Government and authorities to ensure safety for children in Papua while receiving education at school.
“We hope that the Government can guarantee that children in Papua can receive education safely and comfortably without intimidation and harassment,” hoped Meutya.
