Papua- News circulated on social media, where one of the leaders or members of the Armed Criminal Group (KKB) in the Maybrat region, West Papua chose to return to the fold of the Republic of Indonesia. This was conveyed directly by the Head of Information for the Joint Regional Defense Command (Kapen Kogabwilhan) III, Colonel Czi Gusti Nyoman Suriastawa.
The KKB member is named Setam. He surrendered himself to the TNI Post in Kisor Village. After that, TNI personnel will hand over Setam to the Maybrat Police.
Kapen Kogabwilhan III explained that Setam was still at the Kisor Post for questioning, then handed over to the police for further processing. He also explained Setam’s involvement in several actions he took part in with the Armed Criminal Group.
“Setam was handed over to the Police because he was on the wanted list (DPO). “He was involved in the case of the attack on the Kampung Kisor Military District Command Post (Koramil) in 2021. In that incident, 50 members of the KKB Goliath Tabuni Group attacked the TNI post in Kisor, which resulted in four TNI AD soldiers dying,” he explained.
It is known that the local community had notified the existence of the setam to the security forces on duty in the area. “The community told us that there were 2 KKB members, namely Setam Same and Simon Fatemte, who were in Roma Village and Tolak Village,” he said.
Furthermore, after receiving this information, the security forces immediately went to the location and got Setam Same. He was immediately taken for questioning.
Meanwhile, Simon Fatemte did not follow in Setam’s footsteps. Simon chose to run away back into the forest.
In his statement letter, complete with his signature on a stamp, Setam stated that he returned to the Republic of Indonesia voluntarily, aka without coercion. He also promised not to rejoin the KKB.
Setam in his letter also stated that he was ready to help the Indonesian Government, TNI-Polri to provide information regarding the existence of the KKB. Including members of the West Papua National Liberation Army (TNBP) who are currently still guerrillas in the forest.
