Jayapura – Candidate for TNI Commander, General Agus Subiyanto, revealed his strategy for overcoming the conflict in Papua. There were two approaches that Agus explained when undergoing a fit and proper test at Commission I DPR, Monday (13/11/2023).
“To overcome vertical conflicts such as the problem in Papua, a smart power approach combined with hard power and soft power military diplomacy is absolutely necessary,” said Agus.
Agus explained that hard power is related to law enforcement because there are still combatants there. Meanwhile, soft power is in order to support the implementation of accelerated welfare development in Papua.
“This soft power approach should be carried out jointly, in synergy between the TNI and all relevant ministries, institutions and stakeholders. Meanwhile, military diplomacy is carried out through mediation or exchange of TNI personnel with countries in the region,” he said.
“Military diplomacy is carried out to build interpersonal relationships between soldiers and create common views regarding approaches to solving problems in Papua,” he continued.
Of course, he said the TNI does not work alone. He confirmed that he would collaborate with the National Police and all related ministries.
“The goal is to improve the welfare of the Papuan people,” he said.
Candidate for TNI Commander General Agus Subiyanto explained his vision and mission if elected as TNI Commander.
“I have a vision of a PRIMA TNI, namely a TNI that is Professional, Responsive, Integrative, Modern and Adaptive in order to build a TNI industry that has the resilience and combat power to face and overcome all forms of threat of disruption and challenges that will endanger the integrity of the nation and state,” said Agus.
