ILAGA, Central Papua – The Central Papua Provincial Government is accelerating efforts to restore government services in Puncak Regency following unrest that resulted in 18 government offices being burned, damaged, or looted.
Central Papua Governor Meki Nawipa said the provincial government would continue supporting the Puncak Regency Government and local communities throughout the post-incident response and recovery process.
“We will not let them face this on their own. We will continue to stand together with the people in Ilaga. Several heads of provincial government agencies have been sent to Ilaga in advance to assist with the post-incident response,” Meki said while chairing an Integrated Coordination Meeting in Ilaga, Puncak Regency, Friday.
The provincial government and the Puncak Regency Government have prioritized an inventory of damage to government buildings, equipment, and official documents. The assessment will serve as the basis for planning the rehabilitation and reconstruction of affected government facilities.
To ensure that public services continue, the government is also preparing alternative facilities and temporary workspaces for government personnel. The measure is intended to prevent disruptions to essential services while damaged offices are being restored.
Security and public order remain another key priority in the recovery process. The regional government, together with the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), the Indonesian National Police (Polri), and the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda), is taking steps to restore security and stability in the area.
The government is also seeking to rebuild public trust through dialogue and communication with various community groups and local stakeholders.
Central Papua Deputy Governor Deinas Geley said the situation in Puncak Regency remains a serious concern for the provincial government, requiring cooperation among various stakeholders to prevent similar incidents from occurring again.
The coordination meeting agreed to accelerate the repair and rehabilitation of affected government offices, as well as address issues related to the distribution of Village Funds in a transparent and accountable manner in accordance with applicable regulations.
The government will also strengthen communication and dialogue with traditional leaders, religious leaders, and local communities to prevent misunderstandings that could potentially trigger further conflict.
Through these measures, the Central Papua Provincial Government aims to restore government operations while maintaining public services and strengthening cooperation with communities in Puncak Regency.
