Jayapura – For Herman Yoku, maintaining peace in Papua is not only the responsibility of the security forces, but also of all elements of society. As the Chief of the Wiikaya Keerom Tribe, he views good communication, mutual respect, and concern for others as essential foundations for a peaceful community.
This view was conveyed directly by Herman Yoku (July 9). Herman expressed his appreciation for the efforts made by the Carstensz Peace Operation Task Force through its humanistic approach to the community and urged all residents to work together to maintain peace in Papua.
“I express my appreciation and support for the Carstensz Peace Operation Task Force, which has long adopted a humanistic approach. I also invite all Papuans to work together to build Papua, maintain peace in Papua, live side by side as fellow creations of God, and continue to uphold God’s messages in their daily lives,” said Herman.
According to Herman, as a traditional leader, he believes that security is not only built through law enforcement, but also through continuous communication between authorities and the community. He believes dialogue is crucial for the community to express their hopes, maintain brotherhood, and prevent the development of conflict within social life.
He also emphasized that peace in Papua is a shared hope that must be upheld by all parties. Therefore, the community is expected to continue strengthening unity, respecting each other, and not being easily influenced by factors that could disrupt their sense of togetherness.
Furthermore, Herman believes that the ongoing violence has impacted the community’s sense of security. Therefore, he hopes that community outreach efforts will continue, while handling any suspected criminal acts professionally, in accordance with applicable procedures and legal provisions.
“A humanistic approach has been widely implemented. I hope that this effort will continue. Meanwhile, if there are any violations of the law, they will be handled according to standard operating procedures and in a measured manner so that the community truly feels safe and comfortable in Papua,” he said.
Concluding his speech, Herman again urged the entire community to maintain brotherhood and work together to maintain Papua as a land of peace. According to him, the security felt by the community will be realized if all elements, both the community and the authorities, continue to build communication, respect each other, and carry out their respective roles to create a safe, peaceful, and harmonious life.
