Wamena – The Papua Highlands Provincial Government continues to advance environmental conservation efforts through the “Green the Valley” program, which focuses on reforestation and greening activities across various areas of the region. The initiative is part of the local government’s strategic efforts to preserve ecosystem balance while mitigating the impacts of environmental degradation.

Chairman of the Papua Highlands Governor’s Expert Team, Paul Wetipo, stated that the program is designed not only to increase vegetation cover but also to raise public awareness about the importance of protecting nature as a vital source of life and sustainability.

According to him, the involvement of various stakeholders, including students, environmental communities, and local leaders, is essential to the success of the greening movement. Through continuous tree-planting activities, the government hopes to gradually restore areas affected by environmental damage and improve overall ecological conditions.

“Environmental conservation requires the participation of all parties. Therefore, we encourage this program to become a collective movement that fosters a culture of environmental stewardship within the community,” Paul said.

Meanwhile, Papua Highlands Governor John Tabo emphasized that forest and environmental protection are integral parts of the region’s sustainable development agenda. He noted that forests play a crucial role in maintaining ecological balance and supporting the livelihoods of communities throughout the highlands.

He added that the provincial government will continue to expand reforestation and land rehabilitation programs to safeguard the natural resources of Papua Highlands for future generations.

Through the “Green the Valley” program, the Papua Highlands Provincial Government hopes to strengthen public awareness of environmental protection and ensure that conservation efforts are carried out sustainably for the benefit of both present and future generations.
