Wamena – The Papua Mountains Provincial Government (Pemprov) has ensured that it will realize President Prabowo Subianto’s Goals through the Special Autonomy (Otsus) policy in the region.
The Papua Mountains Provincial Government held a ceremony for the 30th anniversary of Regional Autonomy (Otda) in 2026 at the Papua Mountains Governor’s Office grounds.
Papua Mountains Governor John Tabo stated in Wamena on Monday that this year’s regional autonomy administration in Papua is commemorating its 30th anniversary.
“Since the launch of Otda 30 years ago, Papua has now established six provinces: Papua, West Papua, Papua Mountains, Central Papua, South Papua, and Southwest Papua. And this represents progress for regional governance,” he said.
According to him, Papua is a region that is different from other regions in Indonesia because of its special status in the area of Special Autonomy in the current reform era.
“With the Special Autonomy Law in effect in Papua, this region can govern itself to promote the welfare of the Papuan people,” he said.
He explained that with Special Autonomy, the central government hopes that all services will be closer to the people of Papua, aiming to improve their welfare, in line with President Prabowo Subianto’s Asta Cita (Asta Cita).
“We are grateful that with Special Autonomy, services in the vast Papua region are gradually reaching the people and helping improve their welfare,” he said.
He added that with Special Autonomy in Papua, equitable development can be achieved through the synchronization of central and regional development programs.
“We are very grateful that with Special Autonomy, the sons and daughters of Papua can become masters of their own country. For example, as local children, they can become governors in this region,” he said.
