JAYAPURA – The Cartenz Peace Operation Task Force 2026 has once again uncovered an illegal ammunition trafficking network suspected of being linked to armed groups in Papua. The enforcement operation was carried out in stages from Wednesday, March 25 to Thursday, March 26, 2026.

Deputy Head of Public Relations Task Force of Cartenz Peace Operation 2026, AKBP Andria, S.I.K., speaking to the media on Friday (March 27), stated that authorities successfully secured four suspects identified by their initials KO (45), SMM (40), HM (53), and AKW (51).

“The four suspects have different roles within this network,” he explained.

The arrests are part of an ongoing investigation following previous cases related to the distribution of illegal weapons and ammunition across several regions in Papua.

Based on preliminary examinations, three suspects—KO, SMM, and AKW—are believed to have acted as intermediaries or facilitators in illegal ammunition transactions. Meanwhile, suspect HM is suspected of serving as the supplier or seller of the ammunition.

“Investigators are continuing intensive efforts to further develop the case and uncover a broader network,” AKBP Andria added.

During the operation, authorities also seized several pieces of evidence, including communication devices, vehicles, and improvised firearms believed to have been used in the illegal activities.

According to investigators, the suspects are charged under Law Number 1 of 2023 on the Criminal Code, particularly Article 306 in conjunction with Article 20, which regulates illegal possession of weapons and participation in criminal acts.

The application of these articles emphasizes that not only the main perpetrators but also those who assist, facilitate, or act as intermediaries in the distribution of illegal weapons and ammunition can be held criminally liable under applicable law.

Head of Cartenz Peace Operation 2026, Inspector General of Police Dr. Faizal Ramadhani, S.Sos., S.I.K., M.H., affirmed that authorities will continue to take firm action against illegal weapons and ammunition networks that threaten security stability in Papua.

“This law enforcement effort is carried out professionally and proportionally as part of our commitment to maintaining public safety,” he stated.

Meanwhile, Deputy Head of Operations, Senior Commissioner of Police Adarma Sinaga, S.I.K., M.Hum., emphasized that investigations will continue to be expanded to uncover wider networks.

“We ensure that every enforcement step is measured and effective, while maintaining public order and security,” he said.

All suspects are currently being held at the Papua Regional Police Headquarters for further legal proceedings. Investigators are also exploring the possibility of additional individuals being involved in the network.

The Cartenz Peace Operation Task Force 2026 urges the public not to engage in any form of illegal weapons or ammunition trafficking. In addition to violating the law, such activities have the potential to trigger conflict and endanger civilian safety.

This disclosure is part of the task force’s ongoing efforts to suppress illegal arms circulation and maintain security stability in Papua.
