Nabire – The Chairman of the Interfaith Harmony Forum (FKUB) of Central Papua, Ignatius Robertus Adii, has called on the public to maintain harmony and security ahead of and during the Eid al-Fitr celebration. He emphasized that creating a peaceful and secure environment is a shared responsibility of all elements of society.
Ignatius made the statement when speaking to journalists in Nabire, Central Papua, on Saturday (March 21, 2026). According to him, security stability in Central Papua—particularly in the provincial capital—must be maintained through cooperation between the community, religious leaders, and the government.
“We must ensure that Papua, especially Nabire, remains safe. Every activity should take place in a conducive and peaceful atmosphere,” Ignatius said.
He explained that FKUB does not merely issue appeals but is also directly involved in efforts to maintain stability and public order. One concrete step taken by the organization is deploying interfaith volunteers to assist in securing various religious events.
“Last year and this year we deployed around 60 volunteer personnel who were directly involved in helping maintain security on the ground,” he said.
In addition, FKUB actively encourages the public to uphold tolerance among religious communities and strengthen communication between religious leaders, the government, and the public. These efforts are considered important to prevent potential conflicts and strengthen social harmony.
Ignatius added that coordination among institutions is a key factor in creating a safe and peaceful atmosphere. Therefore, FKUB regularly holds meetings and discussions to monitor developments in the region.
“In a month we can meet two to three times to discuss the situation in Central Papua, especially in Nabire,” he explained.
He also emphasized the importance of teamwork within FKUB, both at the provincial and district levels. According to him, such synergy is necessary so that any issues that arise can be resolved collectively.
Furthermore, Ignatius hopes that the role of FKUB at the district level will continue to be strengthened and be able to work in synergy with the provincial FKUB so that efforts to maintain harmony can be carried out more effectively down to the grassroots level.
“If the district and provincial levels can move in harmony, we can create a peaceful and harmonious atmosphere within society,” he said.
At the end of his statement, he urged all members of the public to uphold religious values in their daily lives as a fundamental foundation for maintaining peace and order.
“If all religious communities live with reverence for God and mutual respect for one another, security and public order will be maintained,” he concluded.
He added that the momentum of Eid al-Fitr serves as an important opportunity to strengthen interfaith brotherhood while reinforcing a shared commitment to keeping Central Papua safe, peaceful, and harmonious.
