Jayapura (ANTARA) – Papua Governor Mathius D. Fakhiri distributed grants totaling Rp5.75 billion to nine religious institutions and pioneering schools in the local area.

“Pioneering schools and religious institutions play a vital role in developing a generation of Papuans with intelligence and character, and in maintaining social harmony within the community,” he said after the grant distribution ceremony at the Papua Governor’s Office in Jayapura City, Papua, on Monday (February 23).

According to Mathius, the grant funds, sourced from the Administrative and Public Welfare Bureau’s 2026 Fiscal Year Fund (DPA), were allocated to nine institutions, including the construction of the GKI Classis Building in Jayapura City, the Communion of Churches in Indonesia (PGGI), the Papua Hajj, and several religious educational institutions.

“This assistance must be managed transparently, accountably, and appropriately targeted in accordance with applicable laws and regulations,” he said.

He explained that this grant is not just budgetary support, but also a form of government trust in the recipient institutions to continue improving the quality of social and educational services for the community.

“Papua’s development cannot be carried out solely by the government; it requires collaboration from all parties, including religious and educational institutions,” he said.

He added that he hopes the grant support will strengthen the recipient institutions’ contributions to realizing a peaceful, prosperous, and just Papua.

Meanwhile, Reverend Andris Tjoe, Head of the GKI Port Numbay Classis, stated that the grant funds will be managed transparently.

“This way, management can be carried out transparently, ensuring a clearer allocation,” he said.
