Yahukimo – Joint security personnel responded swiftly to a fire incident that occurred in Dekai District, Yahukimo Regency, Highland Papua, on the afternoon of February 14, 2026.
The incident was first detected at 3:29 p.m. local time through Handy Talky (HT) communication reporting a fire on Shosa Road, specifically within the area of SMA Negeri 2 Dekai.
Following the report, one unit of the Yahukimo Response Team immediately deployed to the scene to conduct an on-site assessment and secure the location. Upon arrival at the crime scene, personnel carried out area sterilization and perimeter security measures to ensure the situation remained under control and to anticipate any potential security disturbances.
Preliminary findings indicate that the incident was an attempted arson targeting one classroom at SMA Negeri 2 Dekai. The fire was quickly brought under control, preventing it from spreading to other parts of the school building.
Head of Cartenz Peace Operation 2026, Brigjen Pol. Dr. Faizal Ramadhani, emphasized that authorities are committed to thoroughly investigating the case.
“We are ensuring that the situation in Dekai remains safe and under control. The attempted arson of a classroom at SMA Negeri 2 Dekai is currently under further investigation. The Law Enforcement Task Force of Cartenz Peace Operation, together with the Criminal Investigation Unit of Yahukimo Police, is conducting an in-depth inquiry to identify the perpetrators and determine their motive,” he stated.
He also affirmed that security forces will intensify patrols and reinforce protection at several vital objects, including educational facilities, to prevent similar incidents and maintain public order and security stability in Yahukimo.
After the situation was declared secure and all safety procedures were completed, personnel returned to the Yahukimo Sector Command Post for consolidation and further reporting.
