Jayapura — The Papua Provincial Communication and Information Office (Diskominfo Papua) has urged students to use mobile phones wisely and responsibly amid the rapid development of digital technology.
The appeal is part of the government’s effort to strengthen digital literacy among the younger generation in Papua and to prevent the negative impacts of uncontrolled gadget use.
The message is directed at students across various education levels in Papua, who increasingly rely on mobile phones for learning, communication, and accessing information. Diskominfo Papua noted that improper use of mobile devices may disrupt students’ focus on learning, contribute to the spread of misinformation, and expose them to inappropriate digital content.
“Mobile phones should serve as tools to support education and creativity, but their use must be accompanied by responsibility and digital ethics,” said Jeri Agus Yudianto, S.Kom, Head of the Papua Provincial Communication and Information Office, during a digital literacy outreach program held at a school in Jayapura.
He emphasized that strong digital literacy enables students to think critically when consuming information, protect their personal data, and avoid falling victim to hoaxes that are easily spread through digital platforms.
To address these challenges, Diskominfo Papua has been conducting digital literacy education and outreach programs in schools, in collaboration with educators and relevant stakeholders. The activities aim to educate students about the benefits and risks of digital technology, as well as the importance of ethical behavior on social media.
Through these continuous educational efforts, Diskominfo Papua hopes students will grow into digitally savvy and responsible individuals who can use mobile technology positively to support their academic achievement and future development.
