Jayapura – Perum Bulog of the Papua and West Papua Regional Office recorded that the distribution of Rice Stabilization of Supply and Food Prices (SPHP) in the Papua and West Papua region reached around 20,567 tons until January 2026. The achievement makes Bulog optimistic that the target of SPHP rice distribution throughout 2026 can be realized as planned.
The leader of Perum Bulog Papua and West Papua, Ahmad Mustari, said that the distribution of SPHP rice is part of the government’s commitment to maintaining the stability of supply and food prices, especially in the Papua region which has its own geographical challenges.
“The SPHP program is one of the government’s strategic steps to suppress the turmoil of rice prices in the market while maintaining people’s purchasing power, especially in the Papua and West Papua regions,” said Ahmad Mustari in Jayapura, Friday.
According to Mustari, the rice distribution process in Papua faces various obstacles, one of which is limited access to transportation, especially to inland areas that still have to rely on air routes. This condition causes the distribution process to take time and careful logistics planning.
“Distribution in Papua does have its own challenges, especially to areas that can only be reached via air transportation. However, this is part of our responsibility in distributing the national program so that the benefits can be felt evenly,” he explained.
He added, the National Food Agency (Bapanas) has set a target for SPHP rice distribution for Bulog Papua and West Papua in 2026 of 87 thousand tons. The target is considered quite high, but Bulog is optimistic that it can be achieved through strengthening the coordination and optimization of the distribution network.
With the ongoing distribution of SPHP rice, Bulog hopes that the stability of food prices in Papua and West Papua can be maintained and help the community obtain affordable rice throughout the year 2026.
