Jayapura – The Papua Provincial Government has reaffirmed its commitment to prioritizing education in the renovation plan for Atamali Village, Ebungfauw District, Jayapura Regency. Facilities at the Early Childhood Education Center (PAUD) and the local elementary school are set to become the initial focus of improvements, in coordination with the Jayapura Regency Government and with budget adjustments as needed.
Papua Governor Matius D. Fakhiri stated that the condition of educational facilities in Atamali requires immediate attention. He emphasized that discussions regarding funding will be carried out jointly with the regency government, while assuring that the provincial government is ready to cover any budget shortfall to ensure proper educational services.
“I have personally inspected the condition of the PAUD and elementary school buildings. They will be renovated. The budget issue will be discussed with the Jayapura Regency Government, and if it is insufficient, the provincial government will provide additional support,” Fakhiri said during his visit to Atamali Village on Tuesday (December 30, 2025).
The renovation initiative is aimed at ensuring that children in Atamali can access quality education within their own village, without having to cross Lake Sentani or relocate to other areas to attend school.
“We want to encourage young people to remain engaged in positive activities. The school buildings will be improved so that children no longer need to cross the lake just to go to school,” he added.
The education renovation program in Atamali is scheduled to begin in January 2026, alongside the rehabilitation of residents’ homes and road infrastructure improvements. The Papua Provincial Government views the enhancement of basic public services, particularly education, as a key effort to strengthen the overall welfare of village communities.
