Jayapura, Jubi – A total of 11 members of the Papua Regional House of Representatives (DPR Papua) appointed through the appointment mechanism for the remaining term of the 2024–2029 period were officially inaugurated on Tuesday (December 30, 2025).
The oath-taking ceremony was led by the Chief Judge of the Jayapura High Court, Djaniko M.H. Girsang, S.H., M.Hum, and took place at the DPR Papua plenary hall in Jayapura City.
The inauguration was carried out based on the Decree of the Minister of Home Affairs Number 100.2.2.4-2019 of 2025, dated July 23, 2025.
Papua Governor Matius Derek Fakhiri stated that the inauguration of DPR Papua members through the appointment mechanism represents a concrete manifestation of the state’s commitment to ensuring political representation for Indigenous Papuans (Orang Asli Papua/OAP).
“This momentum is not merely a constitutional agenda, but also an important part of strengthening democracy and political affirmation for Indigenous Papuans within the framework of special autonomy,” Fakhiri said in his remarks.
He added that the presence of DPR Papua members appointed through this mechanism is expected to strengthen the legislature’s role in advocating for the aspirations, rights, and interests of the Papuan people in a fair and dignified manner.
