Biak Numfor — In an effort to promote creative economy development based on local culture, the Biak Numfor Regency Government organized a souvenir-making training program for indigenous Papuan residents. The activity took place in Biak, Papua, on Friday (October 31), and was attended by dozens of participants from various Districts.
The training aimed to enhance participants’ skills in transforming natural materials into high-value handicrafts, such as wood carvings, woven products, and traditional accessories inspired by Papuan culture.
According to the Head of the Biak Numfor Industry and Trade Office, the initiative is part of the local government’s program to strengthen small-scale enterprises and introduce local craftsmanship to broader markets.
“Through this program, we hope to encourage the entrepreneurial spirit of indigenous Papuans so they can produce competitive, high-quality products that reflect regional identity,” he stated.
In addition to technical skills, participants also received guidance on business management, marketing strategies, and digital promotion techniques to help them develop their ventures independently and sustainably.
Through this initiative, the Biak Numfor Regency Government hopes that indigenous Papuans will become more empowered, creative, and actively involved in strengthening the local economy through cultural-based craftsmanship.
