Two Tribal Leaders in Central Papua to Hold a Major Meeting Following Governor’s Policy

Nabire,— Two major tribes in Central Papua Province, Moni and Wolani, are scheduled to hold a Grand Meeting (Mubes) on October 31, 2025. This event is a follow-up to the Central Papua Governor’s policy regarding the establishment of tribal leaders in each customary area.
Preparation stages have been completed, including the socialization of the meeting’s rules and criteria for selecting tribal leaders, held at the Catholic Church Hall, Bukit Meeiam, Nabire, on Wednesday (29/10/2025).
Thobias Kobogau, the chairman of the Mubes committee, stated that the activity is part of implementing the governor’s policy to strengthen traditional leadership structures in Central Papua. He added that they are currently drafting regulations and procedures for a transparent and democratic election process.
Deputy Regent of Intan Jaya, Elias Igapa, expressed full support for the tribal leader election. He mentioned that the local government and the community in Nabire are ready to support the process from start to finish.
“As part of the Nabire community, we fully support this activity to ensure it runs smoothly and successfully. This is not just about differences but a moment to strengthen unity between the Moni and Wolani tribes in Intan Jaya Regency,” said Elias.
Additionally, Anastasia Belau, a representative of the Papuan People’s Assembly (MRP) Central Papua, praised the provincial government for facilitating the election process. She hopes that the process will produce the best leaders from both tribes who can enhance synergy and development in Central Papua.
“We thank the Governor and Deputy Governor of Central Papua for their support. Hopefully, this cooperation will continue for the betterment of Central Papua,” she said.
The Mubes is expected to strengthen customary bonds and create leadership that benefits the local communities and development in the region.
