Jayapura – The Papua Regional Police (Polda Papua), through its Prevention Working Group (Pokja Pencegahan), is conducting monitoring and supervision of the management of School Operational Assistance (BOS) funds in Merauke Regency, South Papua Province. The initiative aims to ensure that the use of education funds remains transparent and accountable.
Head of the Prevention Working Group and Director of Community Guidance (Dirbinmas) of the Papua Police, Commissioner Pol. Erick K. Sully, said the supervision activities are currently underway, targeting several schools in the Merauke area.
“Our team is directly visiting schools to check administrative records, facilities, and infrastructure, as well as to hold discussions with principals and teachers regarding the implementation of education programs and the use of BOS funds,” said Commissioner Erick in Jayapura, Sunday (October 26, 2025).
The activity is led by Police Commissioner Sarwoko, Head of the Public Complaints and Supervision Subdivision under Dirbinmas Papua Police, involving several personnel assigned to conduct field inspections.
Preliminary findings indicate that, in general, the management of BOS funds at the five schools visited has been in line with regulations. Most schools allocate around 40 percent of BOS funds to pay the salaries of non-civil servant teachers, while the remaining funds are used for operational activities and the procurement of educational materials.
The team also found that school committee fees applied in some schools are voluntary and adjusted to the financial capacity of parents. All schools monitored were recorded in the Education Data System (Dapodik) and continue to actively conduct teaching and learning activities.
“On average, the schools we visited have a B accreditation and have achieved several accomplishments in both academic and sports fields,” added Commissioner Erick.
However, he noted several challenges in the field, including delays in BOS fund disbursement and the need for school building renovations, many of which have not been repaired for a long time.
“These findings will serve as material for evaluation in coordination with local governments and related agencies so that future BOS fund distributions become more effective and have a direct impact on improving education quality in South Papua,” he concluded.
