Jayapura – Papua is now recording a new achievement in the superior commodity sector. Through the innovation of Papuan youth, white copra products were successfully developed with modern methods and ready to penetrate the international market, including the first export to Bangladesh.
CV Aflaha Coconut Mandiri, a company that collaborates with young Papuan suppliers, introduces a method of processing white copra with anti-fungal technology as an alternative to conventional black copra that has been produced by the local community.
Director of CV Aflaha Coconut Mandiri, Muhammad Adith, explained that the main difference lies in the processing process. White copra is produced using sulfur treatment, so that the quality is more maintained and meets export standards.
“With this method, white copra has a longer durability, is mold-free, and of course has a higher selling value. This is a great opportunity for Papuan coconut farmers to improve their welfare,” said Adith.
Since officially operating in April 2024, CV Aflaha Coconut Mandiri has recorded significant development. In September 2024, the company succeeded in sending 12 tons of white copra or equivalent to 300 sacks to the domestic market. This achievement is an important milestone towards the global market.
Not stopping there, the company targets the production of 25 tons of white copra per month to answer market demand. Furthermore, a cooperation contract with business partners in Bangladesh has been signed, paving the way for direct exports from Papua to the international market.
“Papua has a huge coconut potential. We want to bring Papua’s name to the global scene with high quality superior products. Export to Bangladesh will be our first step,” added Adith optimistically.
This innovation not only has an impact on increasing the added value of coconut products, but also opens up new jobs and strengthens Papua’s position in the international commodity supply chain.
With this bold step, Papua is now starting to assert itself not only as a commodity granary, but also as a center of innovation and production with global competitiveness.
