Wamena – The Papua Pegunungan Provincial Government has delivered humanitarian aid in the form of three tons of rice to displaced residents in Wamena, Jayawijaya Regency, on Monday (September 23, 2025).
The assistance was provided in response to the emergency situation faced by hundreds of residents who were forced to leave their homes due to security issues in several districts. The distribution was coordinated by the Papua Pegunungan Social Affairs Office in collaboration with the Jayawijaya Regency administration.
According to the Head of the Papua Pegunungan Social Affairs Office, the rice will be distributed to several refugee shelters to ensure that food supplies are maintained. “We are committed to making sure that people do not run out of food while they remain in the shelters,” he explained.
The Acting Governor of Papua Pegunungan emphasized that the local government continues to monitor the condition of refugees and is preparing further measures if logistical needs increase. “This aid reflects the government’s presence among the people, and we are ready to provide additional supplies if necessary,” he stated.
Refugees expressed gratitude for the support and hoped that the government would continue to provide assistance until the situation in their villages returns to normal.
Through this distribution, the Papua Pegunungan Provincial Government seeks to safeguard the livelihoods of displaced residents while strengthening social protection during the ongoing crisis.
