Jayapura — Papua Police Chief Inspector General Patrige Rudolf Renwarin has urged the people of Papua to maintain peace and public order following the re-run of the Papua gubernatorial election.

He highlighted the crucial role of community leaders — including traditional, religious, and youth figures — in easing potential tensions and spreading messages of peace amid the post-election political dynamics.

“We hope these leaders can convey messages of peace. The peace we build together will directly impact security and public order in Papua Province,” he said on Tuesday (August 19, 2025).

The Police Chief also reminded the public not to be provoked by irresponsible parties spreading disinformation and hoaxes through social media. According to him, false news has the potential to divide communities and disrupt stability in Papua.

Inspector General Renwarin added that the police, in coordination with the Indonesian military (TNI), are strengthening patrols and security measures in vulnerable areas to ensure a safe and peaceful democratic process.

“I call on all elements of Papuan society to work together in safeguarding security and public order. We must not allow political differences to divide us. Papua needs peace for better development,” he stressed.

As of now, the situation across several regions in Papua remains relatively safe and under control after the re-vote. Security forces continue to monitor developments on the ground while urging residents to remain calm, united, and prioritize solidarity.
