Sentani, Jayapura – In order to commemorate the 80th Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia as well as ensuring the availability of food for the community, the Papuan Regional Police together with Perum Bulog held a Launching of the Cheap Food Movement (GPM) in the Al Aqsa Sentani Mosque area, Jayapura Regency, Thursday (8/14/2025).
This event takes place simultaneously throughout Indonesia and is connected virtually with the activity center at the Perum Bulog Jakarta Office. In Sentani, the activity was led directly by the Papuan Police Chief, Inspector General of Police. Petrus Patrige Rudolf Renwarin, S.H., M.Si., who was present with Kapoksahli Pangdam XVII/Cenderawasih Brigjen TNI Achmad Fauzi, S.IP., M.M., Head of Bhayangkari Papua Region Mrs. Nova Patrige Renwarin, Head of Perum Bulog Papua Region Ahmad Mustari, as well as a number of key officials of the Papua Regional Police, representatives of the Jayapura Regional Police, and other invited guests.
In his speech, the Papua Police Chief expressed his appreciation for the cooperation between the Papua Regional Police, Perum Bulog, and various supporting parties. According to him, the Cheap Food Movement is one of the real steps to help people obtain basic necessities at more affordable prices, especially ahead of the important momentum of the independence anniversary.
“Through this activity, we want to ensure that the community can meet their basic needs without being burdened with high prices, as well as strengthening the sense of togetherness and the spirit of unity,” said the National Police Chief.
GPM which is held in the courtyard of the Al Aqsa Sentani Mosque provides various food commodities such as rice, sugar, cooking oil, and other basic needs at prices below the market. The enthusiasm of the residents was seen since the morning, where the community began to crowd the activity area to get necessities at affordable prices.
In addition to the sale of food, this activity is also enlivened with the participation of local Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (UMKM) who display their superior products. The presence of MSMEs is expected to be able to move the wheels of the regional economy as well as introduce Papuan creative products to the wider community.
The Head of Bulog Papua Region, Ahmad Mustari, emphasized that this program not only takes place in Jayapura, but also held in various regions of Papua to ensure equitable distribution of benefits. He added that Bulog will continue to work together with the police and local governments to maintain the stability of food prices in the market.
With the implementation of this Cheap Food Movement, it is hoped that the availability of food for the Papuan people can be guaranteed, the prices of basic necessities remain stable, and the spirit of independence is increasingly felt through togetherness in facing economic challenges.
