Sentani, Papua — Jayapura Regency Government (Pemkab) continues to show its commitment in improving the quality of life of the community, especially in inland and remote areas. One of the strategic steps that is being implemented is the construction of three type D hospital units that will serve the community in Unurumguay, Lereh, and Airu Districts.

Jayapura Regent, Yunus Wonda, in his statement at Sentani, emphasized that the development of health services in remote areas is part of the big vision of Jayapura Regency’s development: building healthy, resilient, and quality human resources.

“The development in the city area is already quite good. Now it’s time for us to start from the villages. All people, wherever they are, must get the same service as the people in the city,” said Yunus Wonda.

According to him, serious attention to access to basic services, especially health, is very important because the geographical reality in Jayapura Regency is quite challenging. The distance from the village to the health service center in the city is very far, making it difficult for people who need immediate medical treatment.

“Because of that, this type D hospital will later become the spearhead of closer and more affordable health services. This is a form of state presence in the midst of the community,” added the Regent.

The construction of this type D hospital is designed to provide basic services such as general examinations, emergency treatment, childbirth, to simple inpatient services. In addition to physical facilities, the Jayapura Regency Government will also prepare medical personnel and supporting equipment so that the service can run optimally.

This step has received appreciation from various parties, especially the villagers who have had to travel a long and tiring journey in order to get decent health services.

With the development of more equitable health services, the Jayapura Regency Government hopes to improve the degree of public health, reduce maternal and child mortality, and support sustainable development with social justice.

“Health is the main foundation of development. If society is healthy, then education and economy will also develop,” concluded Yunus Wonda.
