Wamena, May 29, 2025 – A shooting incident against police officers has shaken Jayawijaya Regency again. A member of the Jayawijaya Police Traffic Unit, Bripka Marsidon Debataraja, was a victim in an armed attack that occurred in front of Wamena Hospital on Wednesday night (5/28). The act is suspected to have been carried out by the Armed Criminal Group (KKB) led by Egianus Kogoya.
Responding to the incident, Jayawijaya Regent Atenius Murib issued a firm statement. In a press conference after an emergency meeting with the Regional Leadership Forum (Forkopimda) on Thursday (5/29), he strongly condemned the brutal act and gave an ultimatum to KKB to leave Wamena immediately.
“This is the last warning. There is no place for crime in Wamena. If you’re here, leave immediately,” Atenius Murib emphasized.
The emergency meeting was held at the Jayawijaya Regent’s Office and attended by representatives of the Papua Mountains Provincial Government, community leaders, traditional leaders, security officials, and civil institutions. The forum agreed to strengthen coordination to maintain security stability in the mountainous region.
Regent Atenius also ensured that the security situation has returned to normal. He urged the public to remain calm and continue their daily activities as usual.
“The incident at Wamena Hospital is deeply regrettable, but the situation is now safe and under control. People can resume their normal activities,” he said.
Furthermore, Atenius emphasized that Wamena is a center for education, healthcare, and community development in the Papua mountain region. He strongly rejected the image of Wamena as a conflict city and declared his determination to protect its citizens from armed disturbances.
“Wamena is a city of life, not a city of chaos. It’s a place where people get education, treatment, and a decent living. We won’t let armed groups ruin it,” he said.
