Jayapura – Two immigration offices located in Papua’s border areas—Jayapura Immigration Office in Papua Province and Merauke Immigration Office in South Papua—have issued a total of 3,031 travel documents in the recent period. These include 2,732 passports and 299 border crossing cards (KLB).

Head of the Papua Regional Office of the Directorate General of Immigration, Samuel Toba, stated that these two offices are the only ones authorized to issue KLBs due to their proximity to the Papua New Guinea (PNG) border.

“These border crossing cards are valid for three years and are exclusively issued to indigenous Papuans who have familial ties with PNG citizens,” Samuel said in Jayapura on Saturday.

He explained that the issuance of these documents is a special service aimed at border communities who share cultural and family bonds with people across the border.

The Papua Regional Immigration Office oversees four immigration offices: Jayapura, Merauke, Biak, and Timika, along with one Immigration Detention Center in Jayapura. Its jurisdiction covers four provinces: Papua, Highland Papua, Central Papua, and South Papua.
