Puncak Jaya, Central Papua – A gunfight broke out between the Peace Cartenz-2025 Task Force and an armed group in Kampung Usir, Mulia District, Puncak Jaya Regency, on Thursday (May 15). The incident resulted in the death of two police officers.
The two fallen personnel, Bripda Dedi Tambunan and Bharada Raymon Rerey, were on duty safeguarding security and stability in Papua.
The Head of the Peace Cartenz-2025 Task Force, Brigadier General Dr. Faizal Ramadhani, S.Sos., S.I.K., M.H., alongside Deputy Task Force Commander Kombes Pol. Adarma Sinaga, S.I.K., M.Hum., confirmed the tragic news. “The perpetrators are believed to be members of the Armed Criminal Group (KKB). Despite efforts to evacuate the victims to Mulia Regional Hospital, their lives could not be saved,” Brigadier General Faizal stated.
Local residents reported hearing gunfire in Kampung Usir, creating panic among the community. Security forces promptly conducted sweeps and launched a manhunt for the perpetrators in the vicinity of the incident.
The Head of Public Relations for the Peace Cartenz-2025 Task Force, Kombes Pol. Yusuf Sutejo, S.I.K., M.T., appealed to the public to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information. “We urge residents to stay vigilant, not be swayed by baseless rumors, and support ongoing law enforcement efforts to maintain public order,” he said.
As of now, the pursuit of the armed group involved in the incident continues. Security forces remain committed to restoring peace and ensuring the safety of the Puncak Jaya community.
