Jakarta – The Supreme Court (MA) has once again reassigned Judge Eko Aryanto, who previously presided over the corruption trial of celebrity Sandra Dewi’s husband, Harvey Moeis. This time, Eko has been rotated to serve as a High Court Judge at the West Papua High Court.
This decision was confirmed by Supreme Court spokesperson Yanto, who verified the outcome of the leadership meeting held on May 9, 2025. The meeting concluded with the reassignment of 41 judicial officials across various high courts, including positions of chief justices, deputy chief justices, and high court judges.
“Yes, that’s correct,” Yanto told reporters on Sunday (May 11, 2025).
Before being assigned to West Papua, Eko was transferred from the Central Jakarta District Court to the Sidoarjo District Court in April 2025. This latest reassignment places Eko at the high court level as part of the Supreme Court’s routine rotation policy.
Eko Aryanto gained public attention as the presiding judge in the high-profile tin corruption case involving Harvey Moeis at the first instance court. At the time, Eko sentenced Harvey to 6 years and 6 months in prison, imposed a fine of IDR 1 billion, and ordered him to pay IDR 210 billion in compensation. In his verdict, the judge found Harvey guilty of corruption that caused IDR 300 trillion in state losses, as well as money laundering. Additionally, Harvey’s assets were confiscated to help recover the state’s financial losses.
However, the Jakarta High Court later increased Harvey’s sentence to 20 years in prison upon appeal.
Nationwide Reassignment of 41 High Court Judges
Eko Aryanto’s transfer is part of a large-scale reshuffle carried out by the Supreme Court, affecting 41 officials in high courts across Indonesia. The reshuffle involves strategic positions such as chief justices and deputy chief justices of several high courts.
Among the notable moves, Nugroho Setiadji has been reassigned from Chief Justice of Palembang High Court to Chief Justice of Jakarta High Court, while Herri Swantoro has been transferred from Jakarta to Yogyakarta. Albertina Ho has also been reassigned, now serving as Deputy Chief Justice of Jakarta High Court after previously holding the same position at the Banten High Court.
The position of Chief Justice at the West Papua High Court will now be held by Wayan Karya, formerly Deputy Chief Justice of Bandung High Court. Meanwhile, Eko Aryanto, along with Suparman and Esthar Oktavi, has been appointed as a High Court Judge in West Papua.
