Puncak Jaya – The Governor of Central Papua, Meki Fritz Nawipa, expressed his hope that the situation in Puncak Jaya Regency would remain peaceful after the reconciliation between two community groups who had been in conflict due to the regional election.

“I sincerely hope that with the completion of the peace process, marked by the belah kayu Doli ceremony, there will be no more clashes between supporters so that the community can return to their normal activities,” said Governor Nawipa in Mulia, Monday.

He emphasized that it is time for everyone to work together in building Puncak Jaya, as a region cannot progress if political conflicts and wars continue to occur.

“My deepest gratitude goes to the Acting Regent of Puncak Jaya, the TNI-Polri personnel, and the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) who have tirelessly worked to safeguard and ensure the security of the area, allowing Puncak Jaya to return to a state of peace and safety,” Governor Nawipa stated.

The belah kayu Doli ceremony, which symbolizes peace between the two rival groups from the Puncak Jaya regional election, was held after around seven months of social conflict.

This traditional ritual of belah kayu Doli is a customary practice of the Dani Tribe, symbolizing an agreement between warring factions to reconcile and end their disputes.

The ceremony involved placing doli wood from both parties, shooting arrows at a piglet, and shaking hands as a sign of peace. The event was attended by the elected Regent and Deputy Regent of Puncak Jaya, Yuni Wonda and Mus Kogoya, as well as candidates Miren and Mendi.
