The Papua Mountain Province Government Distributes 100 Tons of Rice to Flood-Affected Residents

The Papua Mountain Province (PAPEG) has distributed 100 tons of rice to assist residents affected by floods and landslides in 31 districts of Jayawijaya Regency. This aid is provided as a sincere concern from the government for the victims of the natural disaster that has struck the region.
Gouvernor of Papua Mountain Province, John Tabo, stated that the distribution of rice is part of an emergency response effort to ease the burden on affected communities. During his visit to the Flood and Landslide Emergency Response Task Force (Satgas) Post in Wamena, Tabo was accompanied by the Vice Regent of Jayawijaya, Athenis Murib-Ronny Elopere. He emphasized that the aid would be promptly distributed to those in need.
According to the governor, the floods and landslides in the area were caused by the overflow of the Baliem River and other rivers, which led to damage and difficulties for the local residents. He confirmed that the rice shipment was carried out through disaster posts prepared for this purpose.
A total of 10 tons of the aid has already been handed over directly to the Emergency Response Task Force Post in Jayawijaya for immediate distribution. Meanwhile, the remaining 90 tons are stored in the Wamena warehouse of Bulog and will be distributed gradually according to the field needs.
The governor also mentioned that many residents have lost their kitchens and homes, making it impossible for them to cook. Therefore, the government is also distributing ready-to-eat meals and setting up communal kitchens to meet basic needs. Additionally, the Papua Mountain Province plans to deploy medical teams to provide emergency health services to those in need.
While the impact of the disaster is significant, the government is committed to continuing swift and coordinated efforts to help alleviate the suffering of the affected residents.
