MIMIKA – The Governor of Central Papua, Meki Fritz Nawipa, expressed his appreciation for PT Freeport Indonesia and the Amungme and Kamoro Community Empowerment Foundation (YPMAK) for their support in providing boarding-based education for Amungme, Kamoro, and five other indigenous tribes.
This appreciation was conveyed after the Governor inspected the facilities and skills of students at the Taruna Papua Boarding School (SATP) on March 28, 2025, accompanied by the Deputy Governor of Central Papua, the Deputy Regent of Mimika, and YPMAK leaders. He visited various school facilities, including the computer laboratory, TeachCast room, and a student drum band performance.
The Governor emphasized Freeport and YPMAK’s commitment to supporting education in Papua for over 30 years, noting that he himself had benefited from it. He hopes that more high-quality schools like SATP can be established in other areas, such as Mimika and Nabire.
The Deputy Regent of Mimika stressed the importance of coordination between the provincial and district governments in developing Papua’s human resources, while the Chairman of YPMAK’s Board of Trustees highlighted the need for collaboration to improve the quality of education in Central Papua.
