Jakarta – The Minister of Primary and Secondary Education (Mendikdasmen), Abdul Mu’ti, strongly condemned the attack by an armed criminal group (KKB) on 10 teachers and healthcare workers in Yahukimo Regency, Highland Papua. He described the attack as inhumane and contrary to the nation’s efforts to educate its people and build a golden generation. Mu’ti made this statement in Bogor, West Java, on Tuesday (March 25, 2025).
The government has collected data on the victims and will provide compensation to their families. Additionally, efforts to restore education in conflict-affected areas are being prepared. The Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) and the National Police (Polri) are ready to send volunteer teachers to ensure that children in these affected areas continue to receive proper education.
Mu’ti clarified that the number of teachers who died in the attack was one, not six, as reported in some sources. The deceased victim was a teacher named Rosalia Rerek Sogen, while seven others sustained injuries from the assault with sharp weapons.
According to the police, the attack lasted for two consecutive days at three locations in Anggruk District, Yahukimo, on March 21 and 22, 2025. Around 15 perpetrators targeted the teachers using sharp weapons, causing severe injuries, including deep cuts on the neck, stab wounds on the waist, and open fractures in the hands.
