Export Activity from Jayapura to Papua New Guinea Shows Significant Increase in Early 2025

Jayapura, KBRN – Export activities from Jayapura to Papua New Guinea experienced a significant surge in January and February 2025. According to the data presented by the Head of Jayapura Customs Office, Adeltus Lolok, this increase is attributed to intensive efforts in educating the public about the potential and opportunities for exports.
“The export volume at the beginning of this year shows a remarkable rise compared to last year. We continue to educate the community that export opportunities are wide open for anyone, as long as there is a willingness to learn,” Adeltus said in an interview with RRI on Wednesday (12/03/2025).
Based on data from Jayapura Customs, the export value in January 2025 reached IDR 3.49 billion, a sharp increase from IDR 914 million recorded in the same month last year. In February 2025, exports grew more than eightfold, reaching IDR 6.15 billion compared to only IDR 736 million in February 2024.
Adeltus added that all exports from Jayapura are still conducted through the Skouw Cross-Border Post (PLBN) to Papua New Guinea. The majority of goods exported are household necessities, which are in high demand in the neighboring country.
Furthermore, Adeltus hopes that exporters will become more proactive in building communication with their networks in Papua New Guinea. “Exporters should be more attuned to the needs of the market there and adjust by sending the required goods,” he said.
With this increase, Adeltus is optimistic that the export trend will continue to grow as more people understand and take advantage of the export opportunities available.
