Jayapura – The security situation in Intan Jaya Regency heated up after the Armed Criminal Group (KKB) launched an attack on a security post in Tigamajigi Hamlet, Bilogai Village, Sugapa District. The shooting incident occurred on Saturday (2/11/2024) and involved the ODC-2024 Deforestation Task Force Tower Post.
Head of Operations for the Cartenz-2024 Peace Task Force, Brigadier General Faizal Ramadhani, confirmed the incident. “This incident began at around 11.45 WIT. Personnel heard two shots from a long-barreled weapon coming from the direction of the Telkomsel tower in Tigamajigi Hamlet. Personnel from the ODC-2024 Deforestation Task Force immediately responded, resulting in a gunfight between the KKB and our troops,” said Brigadier General Faizal in his statement.
Head of Public Relations Task Force for Cartenz-2024 Peace Operations, Senior Commissioner of Police Dr. Bayu Suseno, also provided a statement regarding this incident. “Currently, our personnel are still pursuing the group. We hope for public support in providing information that can help the pursuit process,” said Senior Commissioner Bayu.
Meanwhile, residents in Sugapa District are asked to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities.
He added that law enforcement efforts will continue to be intensified.
“We want to ensure that the KKB’s actions do not disrupt the security of the Papuan people, and all legal steps will be taken to suppress the activities of this group,” he concluded.
