Jayapura, Oktober 1, 2024 – Secretary General (Sekum) of the Indonesian Christian Church (Kingmi) Gospel Camp in Papua, Pastor Dr. Yones Wenda, appealed to all Papuan people to maintain unity and peace ahead of the implementation of the Regional Head Elections (Pilkada) in Papua.
In his statement, Pastor Yones Wenda emphasized that the Pilkada is an important moment for democracy and not a means to create divisions among Papuan society.
“Shalom, I, Pastor Yones Wenda, as a religious figure in Papua, invite us all that the Pilkada is a democratic celebration, not an arena for division,” he said.
Pastor Yones invited the community to continue to maintain unity and respect differences.
He emphasized that peace in Papua is a shared responsibility. In addition, he reminded them not to be easily provoked by parties who want to divide the harmony that has been built in society.
“We must work together to realize a peaceful and successful Pilkada. Do not let differences divide our unity,” he said.
Ending his statement, Pastor Yones Wenda also asked the public to use their voting rights wisely, because their choice will determine the direction of Papua’s development for the next five years.
“A peaceful Pilkada, a successful Pilkada. Thank you,” he concluded.
