Jayawijaya, Papua – Personnel from the Damai Cartenz (DC)-2024 Task Force in the Jayawijaya sector have assisted in the handover of suspect Domius Wenda, also known as Doni Wenda, along with evidence (stage II). The handover was conducted by investigators from the Papua Regional Police’s Criminal Investigation Directorate to the Public Prosecutor (JPU) at the Jayawijaya Prosecutor’s Office, led by Investigation Unit Head Ipda Yohanis, S.H., on Monday morning, July 8, 2024.
Head of the Damai Cartenz-2024 Task Force Public Relations Division, Police Commissioner Dr. Bayu Suseno, S.H., S.I.K., M.M., M.H., confirmed that Domius Wenda, alias Doni Wenda, is suspected of committing premeditated murder.
“As stipulated in Primary Article 340 of the Criminal Code (KUHP), Subsidiary Article 338 of the KUHP, More Subsidiary Article 351 Paragraph (3) of the KUHP Jo Article 55, 56 of the KUHP. This incident occurred in Lanny Jaya Regency,” Bayu stated.
Bayu further explained that the suspect was handed over along with several pieces of evidence, including a Mitsubishi Triton vehicle, a mobile phone, clothing, a piece of wood, and other items. Upon arrival at the Jayawijaya Prosecutor’s Office, Damai Cartenz personnel accompanied the investigators from the Papua Regional Police’s Criminal Investigation Directorate and the suspect to the PTSP office of the Jayawijaya Prosecutor’s Office to carry out the administrative procedures for handing over the suspect and evidence as formal requirements from PTSP Jayawijaya.
“The Public Prosecutor then conducted an examination and verification of the case files and evidence submitted by the investigators. Once the administrative procedures were declared complete, the Public Prosecutor accepted the suspect and evidence. Domius Wenda was then returned to the investigators to be sent back to Jayapura, as the trial will be held in Jayapura,” he added.
Commissioner Bayu also clarified that Domius Wenda, alias Doni Wenda, is a suspect in the murder case of Papuan women’s human rights activist Michelle Kurisi Doga on August 28, 2023, in Koloak Atas District, Lanny Jaya Regency, Papua Highlands.
“The police hope this process can provide legal certainty for the victims and the people of Papua, and serve as an example of fair law enforcement. This case continues to be closely monitored and is a serious concern in our efforts to achieve justice within the community,” concluded the Head of the Task Force Public Relations Division.
