Papua- The Tabi Indigenous Community hopes that all elements of society can maintain security conditions and maintain conditions in Papua ahead of the simultaneous regional head elections (pilkada) in 2024.

The Tabi area includes Jayapura City, Jayapura Regency, Keerom, Sarmi and Mamberamo Raya.

Chairman of the Association of Indigenous Peoples in the Tabi Region Daniel Toto in Sentani, Saturday said that there are nine districts/cities in Papua that will hold regional elections simultaneously

“The tension in the regional elections is slightly higher compared to the general election (Pemilu) on February 14, so it is hoped that the security and welfare conditions of the community (kamtibmas) can be well maintained,” he explained.

According to Daniel, the Tabi Indigenous community strongly adheres to cultural values and customs in national and state life.

“We, the Tabi Indigenous People, really love peace, so that the existing conditions are not damaged by outsiders in relation to politics,” he said.

He explained that in the political content of the regional elections, don’t focus on ‘ego’, but prioritize the nature of brotherhood, harmony, tolerance between religions, ethnicities and groups.

“We see that there have been divisions among society during the elections, and this should not happen again in the regional elections because it will damage the unity and unity in Papua,” he concluded.

He added that every candidate for governor, mayor and regent must be able to invite their supporters to maintain security and social order when the results of the vote recapitulation are announced by the KPU.

“Campaign with a positive narrative and don’t bring each other down with negative, provocative campaigns (black campaign) which can damage the values of peace that have been built so far,” he said.

The Papua Regional Police (Polda) estimates that the 2024 regional elections will be of higher intensity compared to the elections on February 14 2024, so that community, traditional, youth, women and religious leaders must join hands in creating peace in Papua.
