Jayapura – The Puncak Resort Police, Central Papua are hunting for the perpetrators of the shooting of a community member in Kago Village, Ilaga District, Puncak Regency. This tragic incident occurred on Friday (1/9/2023) and it is suspected that the perpetrators were an armed criminal group (KKB) in the Puncak area.
Head of Papua Police Public Relations, Kombes Pol. Ignatius Benny Ady Prabowo said that the Puncak Police were taking firm steps. “We are very concerned about this shooting incident,” he said.
He said that when the incident occurred, the joint TNI-Polri security forces immediately responded and headed to the source of the gunshots. However, when the authorities arrived at the scene, the perpetrator had already fled.
“After conducting a sweep, members quickly evacuated Antonius Padang to Ilaga Hospital, Kampung Kago, to receive medical treatment,” he said. Puncak Police Chief, Commissioner I Nyoman Punia, said that currently the victim is still conscious.
Even though the shot projectile was still lodged in the victim’s leg. “At this time, surgery has been carried out to remove the projectile embedded in the victim’s knee,” he said.
Punia Police Chief also emphasized his commitment to pursuing the perpetrators and ensuring that they will be faced with the appropriate legal process. “We will not remain silent in the face of crimes like this,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Police also issued an appeal to the public to stop carrying out activities outside the home before 17.00 WIT. Especially at night, as a measure to prevent criminal activity in the area.
It is known that the shooting victim was named Antonius Padang (33) who at that time was closing his kiosk. This shooting is suspected to have used a homemade firearm and occurred at around 18.38 WIT.
