PEGUNUNGAN BINTANG — Personnel of the Enforcement Task Force of Operation Damai Cartenz 2026 carried out security and territorial support duties to maintain public order during the expression of aspirations by the Pegunungan Bintang Student Association on Friday, January 23, 2026. The activity took place along the Oksibil–Iwur Road, in front of Bank Papua Oksibil, Pegunungan Bintang Regency.
The security operation was conducted as a preventive measure against potential security disturbances, including possible infiltration and threats from Armed Criminal Groups (KKB). Throughout the operation, Operation Damai Cartenz personnel prioritized a humanist approach while fully respecting the rights of the public and students to express their aspirations peacefully.
The Head of Operation Damai Cartenz 2026, Brigjen Pol. Dr. Faizal Ramadhani, S.Sos., S.I.K., M.H., emphasized that the presence of the Indonesian National Police during the activity was intended to ensure that democratic spaces remain safe, orderly, and dignified. According to him, lasting peace in Papua can only be achieved when security and freedom of expression go hand in hand.
“Operation Damai Cartenz 2026 is present to ensure that every expression of public aspirations can take place safely and peacefully. The Police are not only responsible for maintaining security, but also for safeguarding the public’s right to express opinions through a humanist and persuasive approach,” Brigjen Pol. Faizal Ramadhani stated.
He added that the security measures implemented reflect the Police’s commitment to preventing any parties from exploiting the situation to create security disturbances, while also maintaining public trust in state institutions.
The activity received positive responses from the Pegunungan Bintang Regency Government and the local community. A community leader from Pegunungan Bintang, Markus Lepitalem, expressed his appreciation for the role of the Police in ensuring a conducive situation throughout the event.
“We saw the officers present in a calm and respectful manner. The expression of aspirations took place safely without any disturbances, and this shows that Operation Damai Cartenz truly brings a peaceful atmosphere to the people of Pegunungan Bintang,” Markus Lepitalem said.
Throughout the activity, the situation remained safe and under control. The presence of the Operation Damai Cartenz 2026 Task Force in securing the event forms part of the Indonesian National Police’s ongoing efforts to keep Papua safe, peaceful, and harmonious, while ensuring that security stability supports the democratic and social life of the community.
