Nabire, Central Papua — The Operation Peace Cartenz (Ops Damai Cartenz) Task Force has completed Phase II proceedings, officially handing over a suspect and evidence to the Public Prosecutor (JPU) at the Nabire District Prosecutor’s Office on Wednesday (October 8, 2025), at 10:50 a.m. local time.
The handover, which took place at the Nabire District Prosecutor’s Office, was led by Ops Damai Cartenz personnel and conducted pursuant to Police Report No. LP/05/II/2021/Papua/Res. Puncak dated February 13, 2021, and Case File No. BP/04/VI/Res.1.13/2025/Reskrim dated June 25, 2025.
The suspect, Yekis Wanimbo alias Salah Makan Tabuni, is accused of intentionally committing arson and participating in acts of violence against persons or property, in violation of Article 187 paragraph (1) in conjunction with Article 55 paragraph (1) of the Indonesian Criminal Code (KUHP) or Article 170 paragraph (1) of the KUHP. The alleged incident occurred on Thursday, February 11, 2021, around 5:00 a.m. local time, at the PT Unggul camp, Jenggerpaga Village, Ilaga District, Puncak Regency.
Among the evidence submitted were a wooden stick, burned metal sheets, and several heavy equipment units and vehicles—including an excavator, wheel loader, bomag, tractor, and dump truck—all of which were damaged during the incident.
The process began at 7:25 a.m., when the suspect was escorted by task force personnel from the Mimika Police Detention Center in Mile 32 to Mozes Kilangin Airport, Timika, for transport to Nabire. The aircraft carrying the team and the suspect arrived at Douw Aturure Airport, Nabire, at 9:45 a.m., before being escorted to the Nabire District Prosecutor’s Office under tight security.
At 11:10 a.m., prosecutors conducted an examination of the suspect and the submitted evidence in the General Crimes Section of the Prosecutor’s Office, received directly by Public Prosecutor As’ad Djaelani Sibghatullah BW, S.H. The proceedings concluded at 11:40 a.m. in a safe and orderly manner.
The Head of Operation Peace Cartenz, Brigadier General of Police Dr. Faizal Ramadhani, S.Sos., S.I.K., M.H., reaffirmed his commitment to consistently enforcing the law against armed criminal acts in Central Papua.
“We will continue to uphold the law with firmness and fairness, ensuring that the public feels safe and confident in law enforcement authorities,” Brig. Gen. Faizal stated.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Head of Operations, Police Commissioner Adarma Sinaga, S.I.K., M.Hum., emphasized that all enforcement measures are carried out in accordance with human rights principles and professional standards.
With the completion of this process, the suspect and related evidence have been officially handed over to the Public Prosecutor of Nabire District for further legal proceedings.
