Jayapura — The Tuuwone Literacy Movement has emerged as an intellectual platform for young people from Puncak Jaya, Papua, aimed at strengthening human resource development through education, reading, writing, and critical discussion.
Declared in Jayapura on October 26, 2023, the movement was initiated by students and young community leaders concerned about educational challenges, low literacy culture, and the limited intellectual space available for Papuan youth.
The movement seeks to encourage social awareness and improve the quality of human resources in Papua by promoting learning and intellectual engagement among the younger generation.
“Papua’s development cannot rely solely on natural resources, but must also begin with building people who possess knowledge, character, and social responsibility,” wrote Otty Telenggen in his article.
Tuuwone Literacy also aims to foster a generation of educated and critical-minded Papuan youth capable of adapting to modern challenges while preserving local cultural values and identity.
Since its establishment, the movement has organized seminars, discussion forums, writing workshops, and reading activities as part of its efforts to create a stronger intellectual culture among students and young people, particularly those from Puncak Jaya Regency.
Several prominent Papuan figures attended the declaration event and expressed support for initiatives focused on education and human resource development as key foundations for Papua’s future progress.
