Puncak, Central Papua — The government of Puncak Regency in Indonesia’s Central Papua Province is prioritizing human resource development and community-based economic growth as part of its long-term strategy to accelerate regional progress and improve public welfare.

Speaking during the groundbreaking ceremony for the new Regent’s Office and Regional Legislative Council (DPRK) complex in Gome District, Central Papua Governor Meki Nawipa emphasized that regional development should not focus solely on physical infrastructure, but must also strengthen the quality and capacity of local communities.

“Regional development should not only focus on physical infrastructure, but must also be balanced with strengthening the quality of human resources,” Nawipa said.

According to him, Puncak Regency holds significant potential in the agricultural and livestock sectors, particularly coffee cultivation and pig farming, which are closely connected to the livelihoods of indigenous Papuan communities in the highlands.

“Puncak has fertile land and the highest mountains in Papua. The coffee sector must be developed. People can also raise pigs to generate income,” he stated.

Beyond economic development, the Central Papua provincial government is encouraging stronger investment in education, youth empowerment, and social harmony among ethnic and religious communities to support sustainable development across the region.

Meanwhile, Puncak Regent Elvis Tabuni reaffirmed the local administration’s commitment to improving education access and expanding employment opportunities for local residents, particularly communities affected by past security challenges in the region.

The Puncak administration is also developing a new government center on a 62-hectare site to improve public services and administrative efficiency. In addition, local authorities inaugurated the Elvis Tabuni Guest House, a facility expected to support tourism growth, increase regional revenue, and create new jobs for local residents.

The event was accompanied by a development exhibition showcasing government programs and locally produced products from various regional agencies in Puncak Regency, highlighting the administration’s efforts to strengthen economic resilience and community participation in development initiatives.
