Jakarta — Indonesia’s Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs, retired TNI General Djamari Chaniago, met with Deputy Speaker of the Regional Representative Council (DPD RI) for Public Welfare Affairs, Yorrys Raweyai, along with several DPD RI members, to discuss strengthening coordination between the central and regional governments in maintaining national political and security stability and accelerating development in Papua.

During the meeting, the Coordinating Minister expressed appreciation for the initiative taken by DPD RI leadership, describing the audience as part of broader efforts to reinforce cooperation between national and regional institutions.

“DPD RI holds a strategic position as a bridge for regional aspirations and as a government partner in ensuring national policies are implemented effectively, inclusively, and responsively to the needs of communities in the regions,” the Coordinating Minister stated at the Coordinating Ministry for Political and Security Affairs Office in Jakarta on Wednesday (May 13, 2026).

The minister emphasized that political and security stability remains a fundamental prerequisite for sustainable national development and the strengthening of national unity.

Regarding Papua, he stressed that the region requires a comprehensive approach that extends beyond security measures alone. According to him, the Government continues to prioritize welfare-based policies, dialogue, respect for local wisdom, infrastructure development, and improvements in public services.

“The Government remains committed to safeguarding Papua as an integral part of the Republic of Indonesia through development policies that prioritize the welfare of the Papuan people,” he affirmed.

The Coordinating Minister also expressed hope that the meeting would produce more concrete coordination measures between the ministry and DPD RI in overseeing strategic national agendas, particularly those related to Papua.

“Strong collaboration, communication, and synergy between the central and regional governments are expected to produce policies that are more inclusive, responsive, and capable of delivering tangible benefits for the people,” he added.

Among the DPD RI members attending the meeting were Chairman of Committee III Dr. Filep Wamafma, SH., M.Hum., C.L.A., Chairman of the Regional Islands Bill Team Dr. dr. H. Andi Sofyan Hasdam, Sp.N, and Lis Tabuni. Also accompanying the Coordinating Minister were Deputy Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs Lodewijk F. Paulus and several ministry deputies.
