Jayapura — The Papua Regional Police (Polda Papua) has officially distributed 852 tons of Stabilization of Food Supply and Prices (SPHP) rice to six provinces across Papua Raya. This amount is part of the total 2,700 tons of SPHP rice that will be delivered in stages to ensure affordable food availability ahead of the 2025/2026 Christmas and New Year celebrations.

The distribution covers all districts/cities across:

  • Papua Province
  • Papua Pegunungan
  • Central Papua
  • South Papua
  • West Papua
  • Southwest Papua

Deputy Chief of the Indonesian National Police (Wakapolri), Commissioner General Prof. Dr. Dedi Prasetyo, emphasized that this distribution is a proactive measure by the Police and the government to maintain price stability and ensure equitable access to food for Papuans.

“This SPHP rice guarantees the availability of rice at affordable prices, especially ahead of Christmas and New Year. The public must be able to obtain basic necessities at reasonable prices,” said the Deputy Chief during a doorstop interview on Tuesday (Dec 9).

He added that the Minister of Trade has also instructed the distribution of cooking oil to Papua as part of strengthening essential goods stock.

Furthermore, the President has directed the Minister of Agriculture, who also serves as the Head of the National Food Agency, to ensure that food supplies remain available without waiting for warehouses to run empty.

“Papua does not need to wait for empty warehouses. The President Director of Bulog will continue filling warehouses across Papua. Next year, Bulog will build 100 new warehouses nationwide, including in Papua,” Komjen Dedi explained.

To strengthen the storage system, the Police will also support the construction of 10 new logistics warehouses in 2026, one of which will be located in Papua.

“This means stock is available, storage facilities are ready, and the public can access essential goods at affordable prices,” he stressed.

The Deputy Chief also noted that the government, together with the Papua Provincial Government, will enhance the welfare of local farmers by developing key commodities such as:

Coffee
Cocoa
Coconut

These programs have been prepared by the Governor of Papua as part of efforts to strengthen food sovereignty and the local economy.

“Improving the welfare of Papuan communities is something we are grateful for. The government is providing full support for the development of coffee, cocoa, and coconut commodities,” said Komjen Dedi.

He further highlighted that food security is a collaborative effort among the central government, TNI, Polri, academics, and various stakeholders.

The Deputy Chief also ensured that the distribution of rice and essential goods to areas vulnerable to security disruptions will continue safely under the escort of TNI–Polri and local governments. The distribution routes have been carefully planned to anticipate any obstacles on the ground.

“We will supply vulnerable areas using special methods. Not only by land, but also by air and sea. All Plan A and Plan B scenarios are ready,” he concluded.

The Police reaffirmed that ensuring food access for communities across all districts in Papua, including the most remote and hard-to-reach areas, remains a top priority in line with the President’s directives.
