Measured Operation by TNI-Polri Maintains Security Stability in Central Papua

PAPUA — Law enforcement efforts against armed groups in Central Papua have once again shown positive results. The measured operations carried out by the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) and the National Police (Polri) have proven effective in maintaining security stability and providing a sense of safety for residents in areas previously prone to disturbances.
The Task Force Operation Peace Cartenz of the National Police successfully arrested a key figure of an armed group, Jayainus Pogau, also known as Supi Pogau, at Kalibobo Market in Nabire Regency. The Head of the Damai Cartenz Task Force, Brigadier General Faizal Ramadhani, stated that the arrest was made after the team confirmed the suspect’s identity and movements.
“This arrest is part of our ongoing law enforcement efforts to ensure that the community can carry out their daily activities safely and without fear,” said Faizal. He emphasized that legal proceedings against Supi Pogau are being handled professionally. “Our main focus is the safety of the people,” he added.
Security forces have also heightened vigilance in several vulnerable areas. In Intan Jaya, follow-up operations secured evidence including homemade firearms, ammunition, and armed group attributes.
These operational successes have strengthened optimism that Papua can continue progressing toward a peaceful and stable condition. The government, through the TNI and Polri, remains committed to protecting civilians while ensuring that development in Papua proceeds without disruption.
“With strong synergy among the TNI, Polri, local governments, and the community, Papua’s security will continue to improve,” Faizal said. The government hopes this stable situation will open wider opportunities for public services, education, and local economic activities.
Meanwhile, the TNI confirmed that the situation in Soanggama Village, Homeyo District, Intan Jaya Regency, remains secure following the operation against an armed group base. Lieutenant Colonel Infantry Iwan Dwi Prihartono stated that residents welcomed the presence of security forces after the operation.
“After the operation, the situation has been safe and stable. There have been no evacuations, and the community responded positively to the TNI’s presence,” said Iwan in a written statement. He added that traditional leaders and the village head supported the initiative. “Some of the village’s land and facilities have even been donated for the establishment of the Soanggama Tactical Post,” he said (November 10, 2025).
The operation also succeeded in taking control of a base used as the planning center for security disturbances. Various pieces of evidence—including homemade weapons, ammunition, communication tools, and organizational documents—were seized for further investigation. The successful seizure of this area is seen as significantly narrowing the movement space of groups attempting to disrupt community activities.
