MIMIKA, Central Papua – The Mimika Regency Government, through its National Unity and Political Agency (Kesbangpol), has launched a civic education program aimed at strengthening nationalism among high school and vocational students across the region. The event took place at the Grand Tembaga Hotel, Yos Sudarso Street, on Thursday (Aug 28, 2025).

The program is part of Indonesia’s 2025 National Mental Revolution Movement, focusing on civic ideology, national defense, renewal of nationalism, the strengthening of Bhinneka Tunggal Ika (Unity in Diversity), and the development of national character.

The event was attended by local officials including Frans Kambu, Assistant for Economic Affairs and Development of Mimika’s Regional Secretariat, Kesbangpol Head Yan Slamet Purba, local security representatives, teachers, and hundreds of students.

Representing the regent, Frans Kambu underlined the importance of instilling patriotism and national values at an early age. “I hope students will not only absorb the lessons but also practice them in daily life and become role models in their communities,” he said.

He noted that Mimika, with 18 districts, 152 villages, and a population of over 313,000, is a microcosm of Indonesia’s diversity. With multiple ethnic, religious, and cultural groups, students face potential social frictions in their daily lives.

Beyond diversity, he also pointed to challenges brought by rapid modernization and digital technology. He warned of the misuse of social media, which often spreads misinformation and undermines the values of Pancasila, Indonesia’s state ideology.

“Through this program, we aim to deepen students’ understanding and love for Pancasila, the 1945 Constitution, Bhinneka Tunggal Ika, and the Republic of Indonesia. These values must serve as a shield against negative influences of the times,” he emphasized.

Kesbangpol reaffirmed its commitment to continuing civic education initiatives for youth across Mimika as a way to strengthen unity, ensure peace, and support the welfare of the local community.
