Jayapura – The Tribal Chief of Papua’s Central Highlands community in Jayapura City, Bani Tabuni, has called on the public to safeguard security and order during the plenary vote-counting process of the Papua Gubernatorial Election Re-vote (PSU). This crucial stage has been taking place at the District Election Committee (PPD) level since August 6, 2025.

In his statement in Jayapura on Friday (August 8, 2025), Bani Tabuni emphasized the importance of a peaceful atmosphere to ensure the smooth progress of democracy. “Everything must remain safe and orderly, there should be no clashes of any kind,” he said.

He also urged residents not to be easily provoked by issues that could spark unrest. According to him, whoever is elected will be a leader for all Papuans. “Whoever is chosen will be our governor and deputy governor in Papua,” he affirmed.

Bani encouraged the community to accept the election results with an open heart and avoid any form of disturbance, especially in Jayapura, the provincial capital. He underscored the need to trust the vote-counting process carried out in stages, from the PPD, to the regency/municipal election commissions, and finally to the provincial KPU.

He stressed that those attempting to stir up unrest are merely irresponsible provocateurs. “We must remain united, live in peace, safety, and harmony,” he concluded.
